Prayer festival in Malacca short trip. 馬六甲之祈祷节之旅. 8th of Dec 2012

Basically I've been to Malacca few times already and today i'm going is the purposed to pray which 2 of the monks came all the way from Bangkok. It's my first time to pray to monks for blessing and old folks always say that doing merit for ancestors and blessing is good for our fortune in future. Normally Chinese people as Buddhist would follow this kind of culture and i believe different of religions with different way to pray for blessing.

This prayer is about “bun,” which is a good deed. Giving food to a monk is a good deed. This prayer is asking that this good deed be released to someone else. Many Buddhists believe that the good deeds you do in life are saved up. If you have done many good things in life, this may assist you in the next life. If you do a bad deed, this has to be paid back in the next life. When good deeds are done, a prayer can be offered to ask that this good deed go to someone else — your enemies of your past life; your relatives, living or dead; or someone you have hurt whether or not you meant to.

Before we pray, we will ask about our fortune in future. Although our destiny is control by our hand but listen to this fortune doesn't mean must follow. However, it might help us to precaution and get more lucks for ourselves. For my conclusion, don't always ask about future. Once a year or twice would be better which want to have some advice. Some people like to depend for it as they always lose their way and mind which they need some guidance. Meanwhile, it sounds creepy when i ask. Normally master will close his eyes and whispering beside him which i cannot see who is beside him. Totally none of anyone! I heard people said that might be a ghost or spirit which it couldn't reborn when it pass away. So normally master will collect some of their spirit whoever still in this world to help them and get some blessing to set them free. Isn't it weird?

Christian wouldn't believe about this. I'm not trying to criticize about Christian. As i said, different of religions with different way. As long as they have their own faith to follow and believe, it's no harm or offend to others. God is miracle, in this world which human being was created by HIM. Although i'm Buddhist, but i always give respect to other religions and would like to understand it. (n_n)

Alright, let's talk about Malacca. Malacca in Malay language so called Melaka. It is the third smallest Malaysian state after Perlis and Penang. It is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Straits of Malacca. It borders Negeri Sembilan to the north and Johor to the south.

It's my first time to drive my car all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca by myself. Luckily i've got another female friend is following me so that i've got accompany to talk while i'm driving. It took 2 hours to Taman Merdeka at Malacca and we stayed for 1 night at budget hotel. To be frank, i'm not so familiar in Malacca. All the while i travel there was my friends who took me around. This time i've to explore by myself and luckily i've got Foursquare, Waze and Google map to guide me whenever i want to search for food and places.

Relaxing while drinking

At night, we went to night market at Jonker Street. A street in Chinatown with many antiques, textile and handicraft stores as well as galleries. On weekend nights the street is closed for traffic and turns into a lively night market Jalan Hang Jebat, or Jonker Walk is it commonly known, is a street in historical Chinatown of Melaka starting just across the river from the Dutch Square. Jonker Walk is flanked on both sides of the road with heritage houses dating back up to the 17th century. At that time, rich Baba Nonyas (also known as Perankans, descendents of 15th - 16th century Chinese immigrants marrying local Malay women) lived and did their business here.

The street houses many shops selling antiques, textiles, handicrafts and souvenirs (similar to what you can find at Central Market in Kuala Lumpur). On the weekends, starting Friday night at 6pm, the road is closed off for traffic and turns in a very crowded night market. The famous Chicken Rice Ball dish can also be found here, just opposite the start of Jonker Walk near the bridge.
